All students should renew their studentship annually until the completion of their degree programme at the CDCE. Accordingly, all repeat students except those who paid Rs. 3000 during the 100 level examination in 2024 are requested to pay Rs. 3000 in addition to the examination fee to be eligible to sit for the 300 level examination at the end of 2024.
The CDCE received five computers from Melbourne, Australia through a family relationship of the Director. The Director handed over them to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya at the CDCE Management Committee Meeting, Held on 30th 2024. The Director appreciated the Liyanages and Dr. Abeykoon Gunarathne for arranging this gift.
The Center for Distance and Continuing Education of the University of Peradeniya organized a Diploma awarding Ceremony for the students of the Diploma in Management and Development, the Diploma in Library and Information Services, the Diploma in Early Childhood and Child Care Development and the Diploma in Electronics and Computing at the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science Auditorium on 20th January 2024. This occasion was graced by Profesor M.D. Lamawansa, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Professor Terernce Madujith, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Professor Abey Rathnayake , the Director of the Center for Distance and Continuing Education and Deans of respective faculties, resource persons and well wishers.
The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Professor Terence Madujith made a goodwill visit to the Centre for the Distance and Continuing Education of the University of Peradeniya on the 28th of September 2024, met with the executive and academic support members of the Centre and discussed all the matters pertaining to the same and future development prospects to contribute to the National Development of the Country.

Professor M.D Lamawansa, the Chancellor, Professor Terence Madujith, the Deputy Vice-Chancelor and Professor Abey Rathnayake, the Director of the CDCE and other resource persons of the University of Peradeniya graced this occasion.
The Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE) of the University of Peradeniya held its 2020-2021 convocation for external graduands at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Auditorium of the National Cooperative Development Institute, Polgolla, on 26th April 2024. This was the eleventh convocation that the CDCE organized for its external graduands. This year 1,139 and 31 graduands have conferred the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Business Administration Degrees respectively. Professor GH. Peiris, the Chancellor of the University, Professor MD. Lamawansha, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor TWM. Madhujith, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University and the Deans, the Director of CDCE and all the Administrative Officers of the University of Peradeniya and all other invitees graced this graduation ceremony.

The Centre for Distance and Continuing Education Conducted workshop on maintaining health after the Covid 19th on 9th Nov. 2022. Dr. Nimal Karunasiri, former Commissioner of Ayurveda Western Province conducted the workshop.
The Centre for Distance and Continuing Education entered into a memorandum of understanding between the University of Peradeniya and World Vision Lanka to help the youth in the Walapane area to provide training in Computer and Electronics on 30 th Sep 2022. The acting Vice-Chancellor, professor Athula Ekanayake, Director CDCE Professor Abey Rathnayake, Dean Faculty of Science, Professor Sanath Rajapaksha, Professor Authula Perera,Mr. Prabath Gunathilake from the University of Peradeniye and Mr. Shiron Perara and Mr. Anthony Lawarance participated from World Vision Lanka in the ceremony.

The Center for Distance and Continuing Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Women Child Development Affairs of the Government of Sri Lanka on 29th August 2022 and this enables the students who follow the Diploma Programme in Early Childhood Care and Development to receive financial assistance to complete their academic programme.
The CDCE organized an awareness programme for the resource persons of the Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Development at the Department of Education, University of Peradeniya on 11th June 2002. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Director/ CDCE, Head/Education, professor Mudiyanse Rasnayake, Unicef Officer and other staff members of the Department of Education and resource persons participated in this programme.

The University of Peradeniya appointed Dr. Rathnayake M. Abeyrathne the new Director of the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education. While adhering to Covid 19 health guidelines, he assumed duties in his post on the 4th of August 2021. He is a Senior Lecturer and a Medical Anthropologist and former Head of the Department of Sociology, University of Peradeniya. At the brief meeting, he mentioned that the vision for the Center during his tenure is to develop it as one of the Centers of excellence in Distance and Continuous Education in the country.
